Best way to ship video games via USPS?
jhonaker316 asked:
I am trying to ship a video game via the online shipping label printer for paypal’s online service through ebay. Anyways what is the best way to ship something like that? It sounds like they wouldn′t allow it to ship through media mail. So should I go for a flat rate envelope or something like that? I noticed a flat rate box is like $9, would it still be that price is the package was tiny?

No, it isn’t media (printed material) so you can’t use Media Mail.
Since this is eBay related (using PayPal) send it Priority. You can use the flat rate box (they come in 2 sizes) or you can use a regular box and pay the fee that goes with the weight of your box. I would use bubble wrap so it doesn’t bounce around and get Delivery Confirmation. You have to be able to prove to PP it was delivered if your buyer files a claim saying they didn’t get it (they will if you don’t use the DC as you have no proof).
Don’t send it media mail.
It is going to depend on the weight and distance the package is going. Go to usps.com and you can find out the vaious rates for packages. You might be able to send Parcel Post, which is sometimes cheaper than priority. Only send it this way, if the address is close to you. The site will also give you shipping times.
Sometimes Parcel Post is just as fast as Priority, if the address is really close, and this might save you some money.
Video Games that are CD or DVD based are certainly eligible to be sent as Media Mail. However, Media Mail averages 2-9 days nationwide.
Parcel Post would likely be far too costly for something so light, although it would be less than Priority Mail, but not by much.
Flat Rate Priority Mail casts the same, no matter the weight or distance. There is a “Video” Priority Mail box that is available, at no charge, and the postage for up to one pound, if printed online, is $4.75.
In this case, I would recommend First Class Mail. FCM averages 1-3 days and if it weighs in at 7 ounces or less, would be less than Media Mail, and a lot quicker. Using the Paypal Label feature would also give you Delivery Confirmation at the reduced cost of 18ยข in addition to the postage.
