Does anyone in here know the BMW M5 well? I might buy one for my wife for our anniversary. It is in my top 2?

Just curious about the drive, I know it’s sporty and was wondering how smoothe of a ride it gives. I want comfort sporty, not rough riding sporty.

I will test drive one this weekend but was wondering if any of you could give me first hand info as an owner?

  1. my father-in-law just bought one…great ride and quiet too

  2. I have a 2001 M5. It rides pretty sporty, meaning that you can feel all the bumps of the road. However, it handles superbly and is by far the most responsive car I’ve owned. But, then again, I can only compare that to a toyota 4runner, mitsubishi 3000gt and lexus es300.

  3. one of the most eye catching cars on earth– you might not be able to notice the diffrencess at first-but the the M5 has a more agressive front bumper and the twin exausts in the back let people know that it’s a powerful car–

  4. i think you would be better off going with the 550. The M5 is for those who want extreme performance, ride quality does not correlate with performance handling. you have a much more aggressive suspension larger wheels with low profile tires all of this equals a rough ride.

Another note be sure to compare the service cost on all M models to a regular BMW model. Ms have to have there valve springs changed every 30 thousand miles.

  5. yea the guy above me is right, it’s best to get the 550I,545I, or 540i depending on which model year you are looking at. these variations of the 5-series like the M5 offer exhilarating hair raising performance (owns the 03′ 540 w/ sport package) but then when you want to relax you get to relax and the ride isnt so jittery. More importantly some punk kid in a honda civic isn’t always trying to race you, and some prick teenagers aren’t trying to “stick it to the man” on your paintjob. these slightly lower classes offer similar performace without the headache of an actual race car.

and don’t forget the repairs, it’s already a BMW and you want an M series, ha start flushing your hundreds now.

the other cars are just more sensible and trust me she will be happy with a BMW period.
