ive heard they are good but i dont care for them personally i was just like you a while back ran electric only but now im in nitro and man i love it
my advice is to try out one from traxxas i know its a name everyone knows but they do make good products for starting out the Tmaxx is good and if you want to spend a little more money but for a great truck the Revo is an awesome truck from them thats all i run now because of how fast but durable they are its a great car and there are so many parts out there that you can go one ebay and get parts all day long for cheaper then the hobby store i dont know if this helps or not but good luck and whatever you should chose i bet you wont want to go back to electric
