  4. the title of the vid should change. its an FSAE car against a heavy m5, the m5 isnt a supercar either. just think about it. power to weight the FSAE car will always dominate. same with bikes. im currently doing an FSAE car this year too. horrible title. cool vid.

  5. the engines are 500 cc engines restricted to a 20mm intake. I’m a freshman on my college build team. The last car we built, 2000 season, is pretty sick, Baja is fun, but the speed in formula is fun.

  6. I’d sure hope that the car would “eat” a “supercar” It weighs less than 1/6 the weight of the Bimmer, and it’s probably using a 600cc motor out of a sportbike, which in itself would destroy any production BMW.

    Build yourself a locost, and then you can have a real competition.

  13. ppl stop bicthin about the things, these guys tried their best to produce this little machine to go out the world and wih, not like road cars(they are produced only for sales). that is why road cars never can win the FSAE.

    and another thing is these guys put there effort and bloody time to make this one piece with on going studying, so c’mon give us some break!!!!!!!!

    My school did just fine placing 6th in autocross and 7th in endurance with half the funding of the rest of the top 10 at FSAE west 08. Our car was designed and built 100% buy college students hopped up on mountain dew.

  16. No, it wouldn’t. Evo’s are designed to be street cars, THEN fast cars. FSAE cars are designed to be fast autocross cars from day one. The list of advantages for the FSAE car is endless. Evo would never, ever, win.

  20. The only haters of this challenging competition are those who never possessed enough talent, persistence or patience to get involved themselves. If you’re going to talk shit, at least know what the hell you’re talking about.

    These “kids” have about 30 WEEKS to design and build the car with an average of about $20k. What is or isnt on the cars is a product of the RULES. You will in fact find many totally origional concepts if you look carefully at a major competition. So carry on laughing, because we are too; at you.

Why is everybody complaining that it isn’t a fair comparison? the FS car might not be as much of an engineering triumph as the saloons but it’s still pretty impressive, especially since here in england people of uni age can only afford to insure cars that do 0-60 in 10 secs minimum and then they let you loose in these which can do it in 3.2 secs.
