How can I remove the matte finish from my gold ring and will it hurt the jewelry?

I have an 18k gold ring which has a matte “frost″ finish. I would like to remove the finish. Is this possible? I am worried I might hurt the gold underneath.

I would take it to a jeweler, they should be able to buff it off. It’s a special type of “coating” that give it the matte finish. I wouldn’t recommend doing it yourself. 18K gold is a soft metal (if memory serves me right) leave it to the professionals, they can do it the right way and it won’t harm the jewelry. I might even take it to a couple of places get some different opinions.
Good Luck!
A jeweler can put a buffing wheel to it and get it shining in no time. It will take some of the metal off but if it is a wedding band or a ring with some weight to it, it should be no problem. There is nothing that you can “put” on it to make matte shiney.
