  1. You are allergic to it then. I’m allergic to white gold and it did that when I wore a white gold ring I had.

I’m alergic any gold less then 14 carot and what happens is I break out in tiny little bumps with clear liquid in them and it’s very itchy.

But try wrapping the necklace around your wrist a few times for a few hours and see if it does the same thing as it appears to have done on your neck, if so then your probably alergic to it.

But I will tell you a little secret woman have used for years. We use it on cheep jewelery that we are alergic to.

Put a coating of clear nail polish on the jewelery where it touches your body and it prevents the metal from reacting on your skin. It even works on rings.

  3. If you develop a rash, you are either definately allergic to gold or the necklace was not made of true gold. Take the necklace to another jeweler and have it appraised. Make sure that it is not just gold plated and the underlying metal is not a sbstance which you are allergic to.

  4. My mother used to have a similar problem, only it occurred with her wedding rings. She’d had them for years, then all of a sudden starting getting a terrible rash on her finger. It turned out that we had started using a new dish soap and the reaction between that brand and her rings was causing the rash. We went back to the old brand and the rash went away.

So it’s possible that you’re not allergic to gold, you might just be having a response to a reaction between the chain and your detergent. The person who said to wrap it around your wrist is absolutely correct. See if that causes the same kind of reaction, then go from there.

  5. Some people are really allergic to various types of jewelery, gold, and silver of various caret/karet weights. The person who suggested wrapping the chain around your wrist is correct.

Sometimes the metallic content will cause a reaction based upon the actual chemical content in your blood, usually the level of iron in your blood is the culprit that will cause the reaction.

Various body soaps and lotions may also react to the jewelery item, causing you to have a rash or breakout.

I have to be very careful of hand soap that I use, as it can cause me to have breakouts on my hands, and will be especially concentrated and noticeable if I am wearing my rings.

Make sure that you are not wearing the chain in the shower, you can be picking up some of the shower soap or product on the chain, and that is what is causing the breakouts.

Do not wear any jewelery in the shower, that should help.

Good luck and have a good night.

  6. Your rash is telling you that you are allergic to your chain. Are you sure its really 18k? or a overlay of 28k meaning whats underneath may be another metal, sometimes a nickle element is under a overlay. Lots of people have allergy to nickle. Rarely is their a allergy to solid gold.

  7. That is what happens to my Dad’s wife and she had to have her ring coated to keep that from happening. I would stop wearing it and either get it coated or get a different metal.
