Fans and media would love to see an asterisk by any and all records set by players convicted of cheating.
So why not Shawne Merriman?
It wasn′t just Bonds - Palmiero, Giambi, etc. Some very average baseball players are under the same negative connotations as Barry.
Merriman used performance-enhancing drugs…isn′t that the bottom line?
I’m guessing it’s because of Bonds’ figure in the national spotlight, what with being the home run king, his bastardly attitude towards the media, clashes with teammates, etc. It’s like people want to see him fail. Also the enormity of Bonds to baseball, as opposed to Merriman who is just one of several outstanding linebackers. Bonds is a giant figure in sports compared to Merriman.
Damn good question. IMO Merriman should be Blackballed as well.
Bonds was on his way to breaking the most prestigious record in baseball and Merriman was just a defensive player of the year candidate. Merriman also admitted he did it and apologized to all his fans. Bonds has constantly denied the accusations as his huge head is slowly shrinking.
The difference is that Merriman admitted and took his punishment. IF Bonds took ‘roids he never admitted it.
