sockspaw7 asked:

Even if he’s proven innocent .. like it was all some mistake.. it will still be tainted to some degree.

Tainted, painted, washed, dried, and fried.

  3. he’s a cheater and they should cut off one of his hands.

  4. Tainted?! It’s a complete fraud. Bonds et al should be drummed out of the sport.

  5. I don’t. He’s never failed a steroids test.

    That’s good enough for me.

Allegations don’t count in America. Unless you are predisposed to not like someone.

  6. Weel it is. If he used steroids, he didnt do it like hank arron did. all in all he is still a good player, and the new HR king.

  7. Don’t you think there is enough questions dealing with this without you adding another one?

The pro-barry camp that either thinks he didn’t do anything wrong or don’t care with say the record is legit.
Everyone else says there is something wrong with it.

  8. there is nothing bonds can do to make people think he did not cheat to get to where he is.

the reason bonds has hit 756 hrs is because he had some help from his friends at BALCO to get him there. if he hit home runs without hte juice, he would have probably just over 600 hrs.

  9. Its not Tainted.

  10. I think he could have been one of the best baseball players ever if he never took steroids. I think he would have had a couple more years in him if he hadn’t taken steroids. I think he wouldn’t be such an idiotic jerk if he hadn’t taken steroids. I hate him, his record, and everything he stands for because I know he took steroids. It’s another one of those things. Don’t tell me there’s no proof he didn’t take steroids! Don’t tell me there’s no proof OJ committed murder. If there’s enough money involved then it all goes away…in Bonds’ case there is his own money and MLB’s money. Ask Gary Sheffield what he thinks about it.

  11. its definitely tainted… even if he “accidentally” took steroids, he still took them, which “enhanced” his performance, whether he did it on purpose or not. Therefore, he shouldn’t actually have the record. I don’t know how they should deal for this, but either way, most people consider hank aaron to be the actual homerun king. All i can say is that i hope a-rod beats his record so that he is served

  12. I don’t believe in the asterisk. I don’t agree with Bud Selig attending for #755, standing up for it, and yet NOT clapping. I don’t think you should do anything$$ed.

Barry is a great, smart, talented hitter. He was a first-ballot Hall of Famer five years ago. He’s also selfish and a bad teammate. I also believe he used steroids and other enhancers. But what of it? Nothing is proven as of now, and if you want to keep sports figures from being recognized because of suspected cheating and bad attitudes, I think there’d be like 25 plaques in Cooperstown right now.

The record is Barry’s. He did it. No asterisk. Now ask me who the BEST home run hitters of all time were. The answer may be different, and people who know and love baseball will always know that.

Of course, all of this will be moot When Albert Pujols hits over 800.

  13. TAINTED! ASTERISK ASTERISK ASTERISK!

  14. Tainted is right!

Hank Aaron gave that video comment out of courtesy for the love of the game, but didn’t go to watch in person because thats how he truly felt.

Babe Ruth is also resting peacefully in his grave because he knows, as does the world, he earned his record through hotdogs and beers, and not steroids.

Real fans know what the real record is. Go figure when he blasted his 756 they were booing him in Arizona, Colorado, and Anaheim!

EDIT - Okay, for all those that say it takes skill, there is no doubt that it does and there’s also no doubt that Bonds was a gifted athlete. But the fact remains, the celebration is based on a record broken. If we were on even keel, would that record be broken? How many of Aaron’s fly balls for outs would have gone further had he been on Roids? Same can be said for Babe! The record is tainted because Bonds was good enough to reach it without taking it and because he did, the record is tainted. McGwire and Sosa took Roids, but did they unseat Aaron? What Bonds did changes record books and he did it unnaturally. Roger Maris hit 61 and it took 46 years to be broken and it got broken several times during the Roids era! How much of a joke is that and how insulting is it to the game of baseball?? Again…..tainted record is right!

  15. That is just a stupid allegation. Even if with the steroids… who cares!!! Lots of players HAVE always taken them and haven’t even gotten close to Bonds home run record.

  16. Tenny Von Tuxinator on December 9th, 2008 at 5:49 pm

    Its tainted
He really sacrificed winning a championship to chase the record. Prior to McGwire and Sosa’s big chase…..Bonds only averaged 35+ HR a year and then increases that by 30% in one year, not realistic.
Also there is no test to detect the use of HGH (human growth hormone) which is not a steroid. Look at Barry 1997, look at him today. That type of growth between age 33 and 43 is not normal.

  17. the record is a joke
    using the clear is steroids,,,,cheating

I think it is, because of all the accusations, and books like “Game of Shadows.” It’s almost sad to think that for years we will wonder,”The baseball homerun record…..tainted, or not?”

  19. What real baseball people need to understand is the mental part of the game. Clubs that face Bonds study his every swing to see how to face him. They use certain stats for certain days and even certain times. If youre a real baseball person you know that stats are recorded for just about everything! The point I’m getting to is it still takes a good player and even a better hitter to do what he does. On top of that, it takes an even stronger person to do all that with all the steroid stuff in the news. Did he take steroids? It’s a possibility. I’m not saying he did or didn’t. What I enjoyed was watching the reaction of the fans when he broke the record. That’s what sports are about, the excitement you feel that can’t be felt any other way. I find it amusing that everyone had a blind fold over their eyes when the whole Mcguire/Sosa thing was going on. If anybody knew Mcguire when he started in Oakland, you would see how small he was. Then all the sudden, he got big, started hitting homers like crazy but not once did anyone think it’s because of steroid use. No one wanted to think about it because it was exciting to watch. Then comes Jose Canseco’s book and the blind fold is taken off. Now everyone is judging the big man in the spotlight. All in all, I don’t care if it’s tainted or not. I got that excitement watching it and looked past all the nonsense that surrounds it. I feel for the people that let the nonsense get in the way of the moment.
