How much gold should a level 4 character start with in Dungeons and Dragons v3.5?

A level 4 should start with 5,400 gp. Information for Character starting wealth by level can be found on page 135 of the 3.5 DMG.
Well according to the Dungeon Master Guide, a level 4 PC 5,400 gp of total wealth. In my opinion, that amount should include all possesions, not just cash.
However, if you want to run a campaign that is a for highler level characters or just have powerful PCs, you can adjust that amount.
This is pretty straightforward. The aforementioned table in the DMG gives the figure of 5400 gp total wealth for a 4th level PC.
This is total wealth, including all weapons, items, etc.
Its DM discretion as to whether or not to modify this amount, and how.
