How should I plug an Xbox 360 into my moniter?

I’m planning on purchasing an Xbox 360, and I wish to plug it into my Samsung Syncmaster monitor. It is a 21″ LCD display that is NOT widescreen and has DVI and VGA inputs (no HDMI inputs). Is it practical to purchase an adapter so that the Xbox can plug in to the monitor? Or should I purchase an HDMI monitor. If so, what monitor should i get for around $300 that would be a good value?
