How to clean really old 18k gold jewelry?

Camila P asked:

I have this gorgeous 18k gold necklace that my great grandmom passed on to my grandmom, my grandmom to my mom and my mom to me. It’s kind of shiny but it looks a little black in some places. What’s a good way to clean it? Like at home..not at a jeweler.

  1. If you value this, take it to a jeweler. Do not use toothpaste because it is too abrasive. probably the least abrasive is just Soap and water.

  2. Same to me. (: All I did was put some dishwashing soap and water mix it in a cup. Put your jewelry in for 1 day [depends on how clean you want it]. After the day(s) just get a toothbrush and scrub it with the toothbruush. (: My necklace is SPARKLY CLEAN! (: Hope I helped.

PS: Only works on REAL jewelry.

  3. i used to work for manufacturing jewellers and we also learned a trick, dishwasher works like a bomb, especially the 1’s with lemon in. u soak ur jewellery in warm or lukewarm water, wipe it with a clean cloth.tada! clean & sparkly
