  1. Measure the longest angles and multiply together. then divide by three for sq yardage. Most land scapers will add a bit to be sure they have enough.

  2. Sod comes in 24″ x 72″ rolls. Take a rough measurement of your yard and add 2 rolls for errors. If you have a lot of curves for flower beds add at least another 4. Sod can be custom cut using an ordinary spade.

  3. Divide your yard into roughly squares, triangles and rectangles, then calculate the area of each of those areas and add them all together.

  4. Your first step is to get out some paper and pencil and sketch out a birdseye view of the area you want to resod. I would make a rough sketch and don’t worry if it is not to scale. Next grab your tape measure and get out there and take as many measurements as you can. Add the dimensions to your sketch as you go. Measure in feet and round up to the nearest foot to make the calculations easier.
Divide the sketch into shapes you can easily calculate the areas for (squares, rectangles and triangles). Add the total of all areas to get total square feet and divide by 9 to get square yards.
