I need computer help. I am taking an old computer to work that has windows 98. Can I use flash drives?

I put my san disc cruzer in the usb port in back and the computer said it didn’t have drivers for it. I then went to websites to download it but was not successful. I am pretty much computer illiterate and will need step by step instructions if anyone can help me. Other co-workers will be typing on it with flash drives also. Is there a generic patch that will work for all of the different storage devices?
