In Devil May Cry 3 (special edition), what’s the difference between gold and yellow when you start a new game?

This is to do with the orbs you find in the game, one of them revives you when you die at the the exact spot you died at (I think this is gold, originated from the Japanese version of the game) and the other makes you continue from the mission you died on (the US and Europe versions), you must have the orb for this to happen
