Is HPI a good RC brand?

HPI is good.
The quality of the cars is the best for that class. Their motors have improved in the past few years. And parts are not hard to find, nearly any hobby store that sells rc parts will have them or get them ordered for you.
The HPI Nitro 3Evo is a good car. On eBay you could probably pick one up for about $300.
The only other brand in that price range is Traxxas.
The 4Tec is fast. And all hobby stores carry parts for Traxxas.
