Just exactly why did George W. Bush want to be president in the first place?

Cecil T asked:

In those eight years as president, did he seek some sort of existential thrill in much the same way that a surfer seeks an existential thrill by riding eight waves?

I trusted his father and voted for him, but I could not do so for George W. Bush because I didn’t see the same altruistic motivations nor did I see the same level of intellect and qualifications.

  1. his daddy was…he wanted to grow up and be like his daddy.

  2. Sibling rivalry? He beat Jeb to something.

Well, it was still better than having Al Gore run the US.

We’d all be riding bicycles and cooking with wood.

Prestige, money, power, fame, …and to one-up his other family members.

To make a change I guess. But congress didn’t help along the way. Good news, you only have him for a short while and he’ll be gone.

  6. he wanted to finish the war his dad couldn’t finish and obtain family bragging rights. didn’t turn out well

  7. He wanted to bring Compassionate Conservatism to the White House along with his record of bi-partisanship as a Texas Governor.

Or so he told us back in 2000. It may have just been talking points provided by Rove.

George W. Bush was the black sheep of the family. He had to prove to his father that he wasn’t as stupid as he thought he was.

    Turned out great.

  9. i guess the same way as all politicians aspire for to be the next president of the United States

  10. even dubbya doesnt know the answer to that. He needed something to kill some time.
I hope that JEB stays where he is and never gets any ideas about one upping his big bro.

    Able and Kane…burning bush,etc,etc…

  11. If he didn’t run and ruin his family name, Jeb would have eventually ran, and that would have been far, far worse. It was a preemptive smear campaign.

He wanted to see if he could win the title of:

“who can screw america up more”

    I must say he won.

  13. Oh, like any president he wasn’t in it for the good of the nation.

He was in it for the power, the money, and everything that came along with power.

He doesn’t give a shit about John that’s fighting and dying in Iraq for his profit.

  14. Cause Clinton screwed America and W. Bush tried to fix it. But unfortunately, the liberal pussies still run the media, and thus, the country.

So, the next right wing president is going to have to balance ouy the media.

I hated George Bush Sr, but that was mostly because of discrimination reasons.

  16. I think he wanted to be Prez, cause his father was and he also wanted to mimic what his father did. Sometimes I even think he was being coached on what to do by his Father.
There is definitely something wrong with GW, I think he has a drinking problem and is Narcissictic, but we won’t know for years whether he was drunk alot during his terms as prez.

He probably did it for the free stuff.

  18. He set out to ruin the American economy allow our country to be attacked by his friends in Arabia and make all rich people richer and stomp on the rest of us .. . he accomplished all these goals so far, but he failed to bankrupt social security system and hand it over to Wall Street.
That pretty much sums it up.
He does have a very pretty and sweet daughter, Jenna

To carry on the thievery and corruption his family excel in. He’s so arrogant, he thought he ‘deserved’ the presidency, or that he had something to offer.
