Just laid some secondhand carpet & seen dents from heavy table from previous owner. how can I get rid of them?

Clarabel asked:

They’re jsut impressions, but the carpet is almost flat where the feet of the table were on it previously. Otherwise it is in good condition and it seems a waste to throw it away.

  1. put something on it cabinet or something to cover the spots…
or put extra nice rag over it…

  2. Have it steam cleaned.

  3. I;ve read that you can lay a damp cloth over the dent and steam iron it to raise the pile. I’d test in a corner first so you don’t melt the carpet.

  4. I’ve only tried this method when I’ve rearranged furniture and wanted to take the impressions from chair legs out of the carpet and it worked for small areas. Yours sounds much larger. You take a damp terry towel and place it over the indentations and gently iron over it shooting in bursts of steam. Then with a nylon bristle brush, lift the fibers from the base. Since my carpet is a wool blend, I can use the wool setting on the iron. But, if you are not certain of the fiber content of the carpet, better to use a lower setting for synthetics, like nylon, so you won’t damage the fiber.

  5. Place ice cubes in the indentations or take a damp towel and an iron to steam it out
