The cheapest ones are about 200-300.
the $300 ones arn’t bad.
You can buy body kits and other accessories to pimp out your ride too, but the actual RC car will cost a few hundred.
1/8 scale if your on dirt, pavement 1/10 scale,go with nitro power,i have several r/c cars and buggies,i’v been racing since a was 11yrs old now i’m 34,i buy most of my stuff from here.
Tower Hobbies is the #1 online retailer for rc items, definitely recommended!
Anyway.. you can get started for $500 pretty easily. The car itself would run about $300 and the charger/batteries would run about $150-$200 (for several batteries). I would suggest visiting. There are thousands of people interested in RC on that site and it even has a glossary which would be really good to check out.
