Parents: How long do you let your kids play video games?
Famous Cow asked:
1. How often do you buy them games?
2. Do you always check the ratings(reviews) before you buy them or you just get them the game because they want it?
3. Do you think its a good idea to buy them games every time they get an excellent report card?
4. Do you believe that games are an actual influence to the children?
5. What genres does your child prefer(RPG, fighting, action, racing, etc.)?
6. Doesn’t it upset that some video games are outrageously priced?

Hi,
I’ll give you the other side of your questions,
I’m 25, spent huge amounts of times on games and not playing that much nowadays.
1) Depends on your budget I would say, make sure they finish the game or play it enough before buying the new one.
2) You really should read the review of the game, you never know what is in the game, depends on the education you’re giving them but I assume you don’t want them shooting hookers at 12… I recommend IGN and Gametrailers for reviews.
3) Yes, they get rewarded for good grades, I used to get that and it’s nice, you feel much better afterwards.
4) That is a very relative question. I believe it depends on the child and on the game.
5) Ask your kids.
6) You have no idea…
im a kid, but i can help. first of all, i cant play games unless im done with homework. i usually get to pick my own games, but the ratings aren’t that bad. if the kid is like ten or more, go up to teen ratings. they say teen, but its really for younger too. if there 13-14, go higher, or they’ll get board. dont get the games because they really want them. its happened to me, and the package seemed great, but the game was a drag after a week. try to get games that have long story lines. that way, you buy less games. if the kid gets a good report card, give em 1 game, unless its awesome, like all A’s. depending on the age, games can be a big influence. if its all they do, its gonna be a big one. if its just to waste time, it wont. oh yeah, wait for the expensive games to go down in price.
My son is nearly 13 and is just about all gamed out. He gets hooked and can’t get off the playstation until he can finish the game - until I threaten to pull the plug out of the wall. I know some of the games he plays aren’t really good for him to do, but then he’ll play them at a friends place anyway. The prices are outrageous and then when you go to trade them they give you peanuts back for them. I’ve stopped buying them now and he is getting bored with the playstation anyhow. Lately he has been outside shooting hoops with his basketball, which is much healthier for everyone.
