Right now, how expensive is flash memory compared to hard drives?

Loofah Boy asked:

And when will the price go down? I guess what I’m asking is, when will Flash memory full replace the old Hard Drive disc(s) for personal computers?

One Response to “Right now, how expensive is flash memory compared to hard drives?”

  1. There is no specific indicator as to when Flash memory will overtake hard drives as the storage medium of choice.

I will say that for the smaller flash drives, the cost is cheap. But for the larger modules, it is ridiculously expensive.

You can get an 8 gig flash drive for ~$50US if you are lucky, but for about $60 you could get a 320 Gig hard drive.

In other words, it will be a while before flash memory is that cheap.
