I am new to this hobby also. but from what I have learned and heard from my LHS, the jato 3.3 is extremely fast and the only time you open it up is like on a football field. Hard to control. I bought an Ofna Mutilator and never really have like it. Now bought a Losi 8ight T RTR. Love it. Either way you go, take your time and learn all you can about break in period on the nitro motors. That can make or break you on how long it will last
Both of these vehicles are too fast for someone new to the hobby. If I were you I would consider a Traxxas Nitro Sport pr Duratrax Nitro Evader. They are both beginner friendly and both include startup DVD’s. They are also much easier to control than the Nitro Rustler or Jato 3.3
I have been racing for 8 years now and traxxas is where I started. For your first car you cant beat it. Now I’m running losi if you get a jato 3.3 you shouldn’t have problems getting any parts because traxxas is sold in every rc shop. Dont get me wrong a rustler would be just as fun but its really all up to you there are plenty of other brands out there that sell good ready to run kits. Personally your best bet is to get the Losi ready to run 8t for a little more then the jato 3.3 and thats pretty much a race truck. A couple upgrades to the 8t and its a race truck. But like i said its all up to you again. Find what best fits you and whats more convenient for you . What does your hobby store carry? Hope you enjoy your new hobby
If this is your very first nitro you would deffinetly be better going with the Traxxas rustler or even think about Nitro stampede.
Most people would say right off the batt to jump on the Jato band waggon but if your looking to keep your budget down, not risk destroying a 200 dollar engine, and find yourself frustrated and confused then it’s really not the way to go.
Alot of things can go wrong if your a newbie to nitro trucks. Running the engine too high, leaning the carb out too far, flooding the intake. Both 2.5 and 3.3 engines are very reliable and are relatively easy to maintain when following the exact instructions. It’s more a question of who’s running and driving them.
Jato is an extremely versitle and FAST car (considered somewhat of a truggy), and with no experience you could destroy it in no time. With speeds up to 70mph it’s better to start with rustler or stampede.
Both rustler and stampede have alot of interchangeable parts. They are easier trucks to maintain, and they’re resale value is considerably high. For a newcomer I think you’d find even 45mph top speeds would be enough to get you excited and having fun, without the risk and money of a higher priced truck like Jato.
In the end it all comes down to how much money to want to spend and how much your willing to risk learning on the more expensive vehicles.
P.S. always good to consider AE nitro 10GT, or OFNA jammin
