Two hard drives, will one be ok if I reinstall winXP on C?

yes windows xp cd will only reformat on the C drive, your D drive will be safe.

Yes, that should work fine.
you can just get one but if i where you i would get 2 one for the oporating system and then one for all your files and installers and stuff, it will make your boot super fast!
