What are the best stocks to invest in?

mayerj72 asked:

I’m talking about short-term stocks and long term stocks. Was thinking of investing in a short-term stock called “STV”. Does anyone with knowledge and experience here think that that stock will keep on rising? Also, what other stocks are out there that I could invest in and get good returns?

Always go with blue chip mutual funds. That way, your diversified and investing in around 200-500 companies at once.

  2. How much risk are you willing to take is the question. The company you mentioned just had an ipo and the PE is P/E: 176.33. Which is extremely high. That’s not the soul measure of the stock especially a stock like this one but I’ll tell you right now there’s risk involved. There is potential for big gains but also for big losses. Study the fundamentals of the company and investing and if you really know those well you’ll be able to say whether it’s a good investment or not. But with every investment there’s risk involved.

  3. Short term - have fun! You may as well flip a coin and let it decide what you invest in. If you have money you don’t mind losing use it as a lesson to learn what the market reacts to.
Long term. Find a stock that does something you believe there is a future in. Example: Do you think there is a need for alternative energy? And if so what kind? If you don’t then maybe look into some traditional energy stocks.
Do not look at what the different analysts think, they are only in it for the short run - ie up to 1 year. Sure they have the education and all the tools, but that does not make them any better. Their advantage is they get the information faster than you and can thus abandon the stock faster, or get in at a lower price than you.
Further, since they get the news faster, do you think by the time you get the information it will help you any? Or will the market already be adjusted for this?
Fact is that most have made their money investing in the long run - look at Warren Buffet.
My advise to you is to get in it for the long run, that’s where the money is. Forget the get rich fast stuff.

  4. STV - you never know what a stock will do but so far it’s looking good - along with other junior China stocks.
