How much risk do you want to take? I suggest finding a deeply discounted par bond, and you can make money 2 ways: 1) The yield (yield figguring it on the discounted price) on the par bond will be as high as 13% for issues that I know of. 2) The price of the par bond can increase, which will give you a capital gain.

What is a par bond? Many are issued at $25.00 each, they usually pay interest quarterly, and are considered subordinate debt. That is, if the company went broke, the senior debt holders (regular bonds for example) would get paid first, then the subordinate debt holders would get paid, then last of all, the stock holders. At finance.yahoo.com, they show up as ???-PB or ???-PA plus other variations of suffex.

An example of a company that has par bonds trading on the NYSE is GE. GE has very good credit, so the interest rate on them is modest, and they are not deeply discounted.
