whats the difference between ATA and SATA hard drives?

Ibrahim asked:

For a Standard use PC, does it make much of a difference “performance wise” upgrading to a SATA hard drive?

if you had a limited budget would you choose a SATA hard drive with lesser data capacity or a normal ATA with much higher data Capacity?

Data capacity more than 150 Gig is not really an issue. The SATA refers to Serial ATA meaning that the data transfer is in a serial manner over 1-2 wires whereas regular ATA data transfer is parallel over some 40 wires. I’m not really sure of the speed advantage either way. It probably doesn’t really matter.
