Whats the difference between Barry Bonds and Roger Clemons?

mdsupersta asked:

By that I mean that it is very questionable bout what Bonds in able to do so late in his career, however Clemons has basically done the same thing and he has gotten off scott free? I was wondering why there isn’t as much suspicsion around Clemons as there is around Bonds being that both have gotten better in their 40’s.

(I know the steroids things about Bonds is a big reason, but why aren’t people questions Clemons as well?)

  1. well basically cause roger was good to the media, and the media is being nice to him. barry was mean to the media, and look where he is now.

  2. That Roger Clemens never needed “enhancement drugs” to be the star he is.

  3. I wouldn’t say no one is questioning Clemens…I certainly think he is on or was on steroids and I have heard reporters question him. I think the difference is Barry is going after one of the biggest records so the national spotlight is on him. It doesn’t help that Barry is a complete jerk to everyone including media personnel. Personally, I think they both did steroids.

Bonds is a black man who is about to break the most hallowed record in all of sports. Clemens is a white man who is not setting any all time records of any consequence.

  5. There has been questions about Roger Clemens. A couple of years ago it was brought up. I think it has something to do with Jason Grimsley of Arizona. I remember hearing a story about one of the ESPN insiders (Patrick, Gammons?) being shown the information at a baseball game from a leak. Andy Pettite was named also at the time and then it grew to that they tested positive but swept it under the rug. cannot find story online though.

Media and race. Barry Bonds doesn’t like to deal with the media but Clemens doesn’t seem to have a problem with the media. Clemens is white. Bonds is black. Who is the media going to be harder on?

  7. good question…..people talk about how bonds appearance has changed over the years, have you seen Clemens pictures back in the late 80’s compared to now?looks like a different person.is the only reason Clemens gets a pass is because hes more cordial to the media?being a gentleman is not a requirement for being a superstar.if your good at what you do,then that should be all that matters.

  8. Clemens is very open about the conditioning and exercise he goes through in order to keep in shape. He does a lot more than the average pitcher. People see him as a hard worker that gets results, not a steroid user.

While Barry is a little bit more mysterious and the pubic allegations that have link him to steroids hasn’t helped his cause.

  9. good question
steroids dont help pitchers see thats the thing…unless they put mass steroids on their shoulders and legs

  10. Clemons name has never come up in any type of HGH or steroid scandal. He is good because each year he conditions his body for the season. Bonds did as well only he used perfomance enhancing drugs. If you watch Barry play ball, he is slow, it looks like it hurts him to run, and he jogs to first base on grounders. He is only good for one thing right now and that is as a slugger. He doesn’t start every game because of injury and that my friend is what happens when you do too many steroids. Clemons throws a game, sits out 5 and throws another game. He doesn’t slow down and is consistant. This is what Barry can’t do.

  11. the difference is bonds is horrible but is trying to break the homerun record by pinch hitting but clemens is only playing because hes aloud to leave whenever and is getting paid a lot of money by the yankees

    the first answer hit it…

Roger has always been media friendly…while Barry hates the media. Because he chooses not to speak much to them, they bash him for everything.

Everyone that knows baseball knows that Roger did steroids early in his career.

Funny thing, neither needed to. Roger & Barry would be hall of famers even if they didn’t juice. Barry was an MVP well before the roids.

Because Roger has been a big “Embassador” for baseball, both oversees & here in the states, he is “untouchable”. What that means is that the media will not bash him because he has always been good to them.

Barry acts like a baby, treats the media like aholes, so he gets the same treatment.

  13. all the media hate bonds
and also hes chasing one of the rarest broken records in baseball if not the rarest
theres always question but with barry bonds its brought up more in the media because they hate him

its does not matter what age you are if your body can still play you can play why is everyone saying there using steroids if they havent been proven of it

  15. People are such idiots. Clemens conditions his body so he doesnt hurt and he pitches every 5 days??? Didnt he have to delay his major league 07 debut because of an injury?? Yes he did!!! When was the last time the great conditioned athelete played a whole season?? i thought so!!! Barry beat out a ground ball for a base hit the other day. Barry is 4 for 4 in steal attempts this year. Albert pujols is 0 for 4……………….hummmmmmmm Barry is a very smart player and knows his body very well, because he trains hard and conditions hard. Clemons isnt a pimple on Barry’s ass!!!!!

  16. The cloud of suspicion that hangs over Bonds’ head is not present with Roger Clemens. Roger’s physical mass gains occurred over a long period of time. Bonds just showed up one day the size of the Hulk. Bonds is a jerk that once said the only reason he was still playing baseball was to make his child-support payments. Clemens has respect for the game’s history. Bonds is spitting all over it.

  17. because barry bonds went from being 180 lbs to being 245 in like two years and started hitting 75 home runs roger clemons has alway been fat and has always thrown the ball hard . you do the math.

  18. Clemens = White
    Bonds = Black

    ‘Nuff said.

If you give me that evidence crap I will punch you in the neck.

The big reason is that with Clemens, the only sign of PED (performance-enhancing drugs) use is his good numbers, and those numbers haven’t gotten significantly better as he’s aged (the improvement after joining the Astros is likely due to changing leagues and facing batters who were unfamiliar with him).

With Bonds, there is the abundance of secondary evidence of PED use - i.e., his trainer getting arrested for dealing steroids, his relationship with BALCO, and the testimony of his former mistress. With his statistics, there was a large jump in his numbers when he hit his late 30s - that is, a player whose previous high slugging percentage was .677 was suddenly slugging in the .688-.863 range (and his OBP and batting average showed similar jumps). Such a change in performance by a player over the age of 35 is simply unprecedented in major league history - it is a lot more believable that he was on drugs than he suddenly discovered additional talent after 15 years in the majors.

  20. There have been a lot of rumors about Roger but they don’t tend to get too much media attention. When Jason Grimsley got in all the trouble last season and all of those things came to light about what was going on with him, a document was leaked to the media. It had some names of players Grimsley said were taking steroids but they were blacked out. Well, since, the names have come to surface, and one of those names was Roger Clemens. He of course denies it so most of the media goes along with it. Most people point out Eric Gagne was probably ‘roided out, too. Are these guys getting off because they’re pitchers? Because they’re media friendly? Because the color of their skin? Or is it a all of the above?

  21. One difference is the way that Bonds’ game changed when he got older. He became a much, much bigger person and started hitting a lot more home runs. Roger Clemens was a power pitcher when he was younger and he has continued that as he has gotten older. He struck out 20 in a game in his 20’s and then he did it 10 years later. Barry’s home runs all came only in the “steroid era”.

  22. One reason I didn’t see anyone else touch upon is that while Clemens has done what he’s done his entire career, Bonds turned into a super slugger at the point in his career when he should have started hitting fewer, not more, home runs. Clemens didn’t go from a very good pitcher to one of the best, he’s always been one of the best, from day one. Now, am I saying that he’s not taking anything now in order to stay at that level? No. I’m saying that there isn’t the huge disparity in the performance level in his career to make it obvious that he’s taking something.

  23. one is a pitcher, the other is an outfielder
