   The 3 Series and 5 series are just regular versions of the car. The M3 and M5 are Race versions meaning they tune the engine different and add more upgrades to the vehicle making it look more aggressive and stronger. You’ll have nicer things like better looking rims and even a small grill on the fender to a different more aggressive looking bumper. You can go on to find out the difference in horsepower and all the other different options.

   3 series $36000 to $50000
   5 series $60000 to $85000
   M3 $70000++
   M5 $115000+++

   The BMW M3 and M5 are performance versions of those models. Its like Mercedes-Benzs AMG. Its their in house tunning division.

   For instance the BMW M5 has a 5.0L V10 in it developing 500 hp, and 384 lb-ft
   where as the “normal” 5-series models have more sedate inline-6 cylinder or V8 engines.

   as for the M3 the new one has a 4.0L V8 in it (previous M3’s had inline-6’s) developing 414 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque
   where as the “normal” 3 series models have inline-6 cylinder engines.

   BMW 3 series is smaller than the BMW 5 series. the m3 has 3 different parts to it hence the “3″ the same for the 5. the five is also a little bigger than the 3.

   M3= high performnce 3 series
   M5= high performance 5 series

   The M stands for the Motorsports Division of BMW- the same inhouse company that builds their race cars.

   simply put it
   M3 is the upgraded version of the normal 3 series.
   M5 is the upgraded version of the normal 5 series.
