When does a baby start to self feed?

My son will be 8 months next week and I’m just curious as to when is the “normal” age that most children try to self feed, I know their all diffrent but I was just curious about it.
Is there anything I should be doing to help him with it or do they simply start to learn on their own? I do give him his own spoon at times but it’s more like a toy for him at this point.

Also I just introduced him to the baby biscuits but he wasn’t intersted for very long, I suppose it’s just to soon being that the box says they are for when the baby is crawling which he is not yet.
