When will, if ever, computer games have graphics as good as the latest CG movies?
Avaldemon asked:
I was watching just now a World of Warcraft cinematic into and thought to myself, will games ever have this realistic graphics?
If ti will get to that level someday, then when?

When the technology becomes cheaper to create that with. A CG movie like Final Fantasy Within and Advent Children for example costs millions of dollars just for a few screen shots in the film. So imagine making that in a game, while making the game interactive and playable, writing in scripts and mappings, along with it being a whole virtual reality world you can explore yourself. That will cost a company a whole lot of money and if that game should happen to fail, the company is in the hole and will most likely closeout due to the massive failure.
The game companies would love to see that happen, to the point where the graphics are so great you don’t know if you are watching a movie or playing a game. But for now, that kind of technology is so costly, for a video game company to use it would be a suicide mission. Not to mention the need for very high sells to make just some of the money back.
