Why do parents complain about violent video games when they are the ones that go out and buy them?

animegirlfan60 is Loving Lavi =D asked:

They see the advertisements on tv, and then they buy the game for their child. Then they complain to the company that it’s too violent violent for their child.

It’s their fault that they went and bought the game for their child, not the video game company’s fault.

Also, can somebody please link me to some reports that were filed because of this topic, if you can?

  1. The parents that buy the games aren’t the ones complaining. It’s the parents who have never even seen these games, played the games, read about them, or bothered to even see what the fuss was about that complain about them AKA conservative Christians with nothing better to do than force their morality on the world.

Do a search for “Mass Effect and Fox News” and you’ll catch my drift. More quality reporting from Fox News…

  2. the parents who complain don’t buy games, its the parents who don’t complain that buy them

  3. Because they’re ignorant, retarded, whatever you want to call them.

  4. I don’t know about links, but I also don’t think it’s fair to group all parents into one category regarding this issue. I think that the parents who buy the violent video games aren’t the same parents who are complaining about them. Some may argue that it’s the video game companies’ fault for generating violent propaganda in the first place. To go even further and follow that logic, should everything that is bad for kids still be allowed to be sold because parents have the option not to buy them?

  5. Advertizements dont always show whats in the game, the rating does, almost everygame is violent, kids love violent games, but parents rarely play games or studie them, therefore they think all games are cute nice and cuddly, it is the parents fault though, they should see the game before they buy it and complain like children

  6. The parents that complain dont buy the games it is their childrens friends parents.

  7. I have no Idea why, but they DO have ratings on them …. If they would only bother to read them. Oh, and just a thought, but didn’t violence exist BEFORE video game were even thought of?!

  8. You know, I have thought the same thing. Parents need to verify if the games are suitable for their children.

    FINALLY! someone has common sense!

  10. cause they are arrogant and cant take responsiblity for their own shortcomings as a parent so they need something to blame.

  11. Y do u think there always is a BIG RATING on the front of the box?

Video games are the new scapegoat, just like movies a few years ago.

Im currently at school, but im 18 and living at home, in UK, and my ma always complains about video games that I play, she thinks i should watch TV instead……

    Understand that, ill be amazed

  12. Most parents whos kids have played the game usually (not always but usually) fall into two categories.
Kid plays the game at a friends or borrows it to the parents horror.
    OR
The kid lies about the game.

We all know that some games have worst ratings than tehy should or parents don’t mind vulgar language but dont like graphic violence so they ask the kid ‘So why is this T/M?’ the kid doesnt say because you kill people, they say because they say bad words - then mommy and daddy buy it. I’ve seen it a lot.

  13. it is cause people are stupid plain and simple.

they just want to blame someone else for the things there kids did.

they dont wanna take the blame and be called a bad parent.

if they dont know what the games are they should read the box they are rated for reasons.

they are just lame and stupid that is all it is
