Why do people get soo addicted to video games?

chriszm28 asked:

I know so many people that would spend over 12 hours playing online games. Why do they spend soo much time on just pixels? Why do they care more about a game rather then life and school. It makes no sense lol…
They rather watch a bunch of pixels rather then meet ladies and make friends and all that?

I just dont get it

  1. hmm ive wondered that too
maybe thier happy not knowing anybody

  2. Hey everyone has there thing they like and don’t like to do. Like television, I hate it! It’s boring fake and the news just controls people. Movies are the same way. Sorry dude I like video games. I play on the computer but I hate online games.

  3. virtual things are so addictive its like escaping from your life & doing whatever u want & thats why people get hooked

  4. It’s actually like a drug.
MMOs & video games in general are very popular because everytime you level up or get some special/rare item your brain releases Dopamine, the same chemical that marijuana & other drugs release so it gives the gamer a very euphoric feeling, eventually leading to an addiction.

  5. Its todays generation, to them it is fun. There is no more need for kids today to get out of their rooms and play ball or hang out with friends at the park…etc. Entertainment has become so easy that sports and hanging out and other stuff like that is no longer the only alternative so there will be people less suited to sports who will not even try to play the sport (at least before the non athletic guys tried.. now they dont even try and just play games). I play video games but only like 1 hour a day or so, late at night when I dont have anything else to do.

  6. They do it out of boredom. They need to get a life but don’t know how too. It’s a real shame really to think that they have to get a life from a game fantasy rather than the real macoy.

  7. Having been addicted to various games of almost all types in the past, I can speak from experience.

Different games are fun for different people. For me, micro-management is completely, utterly, and hopelessly addictive. Whether it be fantasy football or in-depth strategy games, I’m sticking around for a long time.

    Glad I’ve broken that habit.

As for girls and school, its all about motivation. That’s why you see more people with low self-esteem playing online games than comparatively normal people.

lmao @ Nick. pictured some WoW player lying wasted on their bed with their laptop

  8. ‘Cause they’re bored and jewish…

  9. That is just like asking why do people prefer dreams to reality…

Sometimes, people just want an escape from an unfulfilling life and find it in video games. You can be the star QB (Madden), Lord of all (World of Warcraft), etc.

It’s because you can do things in videogames that you can’t do in real life!

  11. Time fly’s when you enjoy yourself!

Computers & Gaming is a very big hobby of mine it has and always will be.

I dont rather watch a bunch of pixels rather than meeting ladies and making friends… - those people that play games for this reason are sad. I enjoy the games I play and testing out the hardware that I get.

I have quite the balanced life with friends tho no girlfriend as I’m not interested in one right now.

12 hours at once is a bit much… but thats my personal opinion.

  12. People spend time on playing online games cause they are hocked on the games, and get sort of addicted to the games, and prefer to continue playing on,non stop

friends of mine walk into card shops and buy 300 dollars worth of bball cards and get blanks. i get the same high every time i walk into gamestop. mmos are like over priced chat rooms thats all. as for video games in general some females do enjoy them and should be used in moderation. To answer your question its the junkies fix. On a side note there was a study done that showed nerds were more embarrassed by MMOs than porn. true story

I don’t know when you get play a online game you think its boring and a waste of time and then soon you level up you get more and more addicted to it. Take Runescape for example some people are on it nonstop. Runescape is very addictive and you can’t stop but play it. and this genartion everyone is just playing video games like PS3 and Xbox360 all day just to rank up and be better than their mates on it.

The only way to make them stop playing them is to get them outside let them take some fresh air and play football or other spor outside.

  15. >< Probably because they have nothing to do and can't think of anything better to do.
    >< There is another probability that they are mental and have this thing that make them amazed of little things like basic science, or reactions. I had a friend like that.
    >< Maybe the game goes through their brains and switches on something that make them addicted to it, NAH, That's probably not true.
    >< Or it's too Intense.
    >< One other thing is they probably want to accomplish something.
    >< People have different reasons why they are so addicted.
It makes their eye's turn from oval to square.
    >< Personally i like both playing games but not addicted and socializing with people.

  16. For me it is pretty clear and simple. I play games for a variety of reasons, usually several of them at once. Boredom of course can be one reason. They are fun and a great way to pass the time quickly. I’ll play games for a mental challenge or to test my reflexes. I also will play games as an escape. Most of all though, I play games to experience new worlds, ideas, places and people. There are so many things you can’t do in the real world, for a variety of reasons. You might not be smart enough or skilled enough. It might not be possible to even do, either because technology has yet to get to the right level or it just defies the laws of the universe as we understand them.

Getting to see new planets and creatures is very interesting. It’s like being an explorer almost. Entering new territory that your mind has never even imagined before can be so exhilarating! Games can certainly work to expand your imagination as well, possibly giving you new insights into the world. They will allow you to try out all kinds of new things in a matter of minutes, rather than having to dedicate years of work to try something out or never being able to try it out at all.

In addition, gamers will end up being the doctors and soldiers of the future and their experience with the technology of games will help them as more things become computerized. Gaming might get them interested in something in the real world that they can make money from. In my case it has spawned interest in several fields, including: theoretical physics, robotics, a variety of artistic fields and more.

This just all gives insight really. If you play MMO type games you can make friends and regardless of the types of games you make you can find friends in gaming centers and such. Spending so much time on something you love is not always a bad thing. I mean, people spend just as much time on sports, cars, reading, making music and more.

It is a passion for some people and might even lead to a very good career in the future. At least as long as they can control how much time they put in. Spending half the day playing games isn’t really an addiction if you can stop whenever you need to and walk away from it to do other things. It’s when you can’t stop playing no matter what that you are addicted. Eventually this question will become a non-issue for society as games get more and more mainstream and everyone is playing them. That might take a few decades, but it will happen eventually.

  17. I agree. After I gave up video games my sophomore year of college, I began to be productive and graduated with two degrees. So yes, it pays to put down the sticks and pick up a pencil and book. I mean, don’t get me wrong, video games are fun as hell but I learned they don’t pay the bills or make me wealthy. Well, unless you make them or play them for a living.

  18. it’s because they find an online life more fun and more thrilling and they think that school and everything else is just a waste of time. they get addicted to what they are doing and have no worries about anything other than having fun at playing games. some people may be addicted to yahoo answers, but they don’t care because this is something they like to do since they find nothing else to do with their spare time.

  19. Because the game is better than their miserable life. I’m lucky to get an hour of gaming into a week.

Kids who spend 12 hours playing video games means that their parents aren’t doing such a great job in minding them. Any parent would know that 3 hours straight was bad enough.
