Why does everyone think it’s ok for bonds to be blackballed, but not the rest of the juicers?
Chad asked:
Jason Giambi
Gary Sheffield
Eric Gagne
Paul LoDuca
Andy Pettite
Miguel Tejada

There are dozens more that are lesser known active players. Why is it ok for these guys to still be playing and not bonds?
Is it really fair to kick bonds out of the MLB because he’s a jerk? All of these guys should be removed if bonds is.
Because they’re not breaking any records, with the exception of Gagme a while back.
every record made by anyone in the last 20 years should have an asterisk by it. everyone was juiced. the sport is a sham.
I believe in the concept of equal justice and I say hang them all the short the long and the tall/
The MLB players need to get the message that we fans don’t like cheaters
It wasn’t fair for the MLB to that. And it was even more stupid to put an asterisk next to the record. If they do that to his HR record, then they have to asterisk Eric Gagnes saves streak as well.
I think teams don’t want him because of the reporters/press that will follow him to the locker rooms, and that could distract the other players.
None of those guys you listed holds the home run record, and Bonds does. Mark McGwire used andro (which is a steroid) in 1998 during his home run chase. How could someone think that Bonds hit 73 naturally three years later? You might also want to compare Bonds’ size when he started out in the MLB (tall and skinny) to now (tall and round). Not to mention that he had a home run surge from 2000-05.
Just look at his stats. Something isn’t right.
Because all of those players you just mentioned were all in the middle of their contracts when they were mentioned dopping. Pettite had just signed, so had Gagne, Tajada had just been traded, but they were all in the middle of their contracts, so they weren’t able to be blackballed.
Now, that doesn’t mean that Giambi and Pettite and Sheffield and the bunch won’t be signed when they’re free agents, because none of them were as big of a figure as Bonds. Bonds has become the posterboy of the steroids generation it seems. Mainly due to the 73 HR season.
Finally, you do have to consider that this has happened before. Remember the names Sammy Sosa and Rafael Palmiero?
For much the same reason no one ever asks who the second-best player in history was.
It’s all about the headlines and the people who make them. Sidebars slip by quietly.
I agree they should all have been banned from further competition.
Becuase there’s always one person needs to be a scapegoat and Bond’s is it as the highest profile player of the lot. .
Bonds being blackballed isnt because he was on roids.
Teams don’t want to deal with him as an individual. They don’t want to deal with his locker room presence, they don’t want to deal with the press that will come with him. they don’t want to deal with any of the legal crap he is wrapped up in.
I’m sure some don’t want him because of his juicing; but some of that is because he has fought it and denied it so much that people are sick of his garbage. (I just went ahead and rubbed a mystery cream all over myself?!?!)
Also the records have something to do with it.
Roger Clemens isnt actively trying to play anymore but alot of baseball have turned their backs on him because we don’t like being lied to and treated as though we are stupid and will just believe anything these guys will say. ( Clemens is in the same boat as Bondsy boy now in my book )
Bonds is old, he is not just a jerk - he is a jerk of mind-boggling jerkitude, he is old, he is under investigation by a federal grand jury for perjury, he is old, he is an unrepentant liar, he is old.
Some of the others have been man enough to come clean and admit what they had done - Giambi, Pettitte, etc. And all of them still have productive years ahead of them (or at least the potential for productive years in Gagne’s case).
Also, as the all-time home run king both career and single-season, Bonds has been a particular embarrassment to the game.
Bonds had all the talent in the world. He could have been one of the most beloved players of all time - but instead he was an ungrateful SOB, a complete ass, and a cheater. He is getting his payback now and it is nobody’s fault but his own.
And from your list: Gary Sheffield should have been kicked out of baseball in the 90s when admitted to throwing games so the Brewers would trade him. He’s only one notch down the jerkometer from Bonds.
Because
-Sadly a lot of players were doing it. The MLB couldn’t really purge everyone.
- As mentioned the others were early to middle in their contracts - they then made amends, apologized and are finishing out contracts non-juiced. Their reform will probably help them to be signed by some team or another, even if possibly not at the rates they previously commanded. Bonds finished his contract but…
- As of winter 2007 he was indicted for perjury. His legal problems are way too public for any team to want him right now.
- It’s very off putting to people that Bonds has the record he does. True he was hitting better than other juiced up players, meaning he had talent anyway. But he wouldn’t have the record he does .
- And being jerky is a reason for teams not to sign someone. I mean, if he’d been apologetic and admitted to his mistakes, maybe teams would want to give him a chance. If you sign him, you are telling your players and fans “look we value this guy’s bat more than teamwork and work ethic. we don’t care that is a jerk and cancer in the clubhouse, and blames his mistakes on others, we are placing priority on his bat.”
It’s definitely public and the media’s opinion that always shows negativity towards Barry Bonds. 75% of the hatred spewed here an on other blogs and forums of public opinion are actually coming from people that don’t know anything about baseball, were not born when “abrasive” attitudes were the norm in MLB and are not even true fans of the sport. They just mirror what the media prints and says on the news…..
Since I’ve watched baseball in the early 70’s, there has been a lot of players that received the “jerk” designation based upon their unwillingness to grant interviews, sign autographs during inconvenient moments as well as brushing off irritating reporters then suddenly being called a “jerk” if they dont do what the media requests…..
Most of all, if “steroids and PED’s” are such miracle drugs, then why are all of the players named in the Mitchell Report and proven to receive and take those drugs not hitting .350+ with over 40 HR’s and 100 hits each season? The proof of the matter is that those “enhancing agents” will not do the trick in baseball by any stretch of the imagination.
1. It destroys your eyesight, which you need in order to see the ball before trying to hit it and will also make you less likely to see the ball while playing defense.
2. It tightens up your muscular structure to the point where swing a bat or throwing a ball becomes too labored and difficult. Imagine Mr. Universe or Mr. USA trying to throw a football or baseball or swing a bat….. Nearly impossible…..
3. It damages your emotional state to the point where all you know is paranoia, anger, indecision, fear and rage. Abusers of steroids, natural or synthetic, have displayed these traits on a 24/7 basis, which Barry Bonds and none of the Mitchell Report players ever showed while playing and in public. If you’re cuckoo, you’ll never have a chance to get out of bed to report to the ballpark.
I’ve met Barry Bonds at SF Giants community functions, inside the locker rooms in SF and Oakland, at work (EA Sports) and in my neighborhood (San Mateo/Foster City, CA). He’s as normal as anyone can be, will shake your hand, takes the time to chat with you, will sign autographs freely, smiles a lot and is friendly and appreciative of everyone supporting him. Nowhere have I seen the so-called monster or jerk that people that never met him claim to have seen…..
Since I’ve watched professional sports, there are no clauses or disqualifying notations in the athlete’s contracts dictating what type of personality they should have. Since he’s a normal guy, I believe by acting abrasive towards the negative fake fans and media that spread lies about his personality, he just acts mean to protect himself and his family.
because nobody set a record the home run record like bonds
