Will Roger Clemens and Barry Bonds get into the Hall of Fame after they were found guilty of steroid use?

LuvBug5 asked:

After the Mitchell Report, I cannot decide whether I would send Roger Clemens and Barry Bonds to the Hall of Fame. Opinions?

  1. Never…and they’re just the tip of the iceburg, gonna be quite a few more that never get in when its over and done with.

  2. I think they will get in, it is going to be very hard to prove it

  3. I wouldn’t.

Is it fair that all of the (or, as far as we know) other Hall of Famers all earned it? Roger Clemens was looked up to as an amazing all time pitcher, and now we see why.

  4. Yes, but they wont go on the first ballot when they are available. They will go in because writers will realize that ‘muscle enhancers’ were part of the game for the last ten years. They may put an * by their name because they were found cheating but ineveitably they will be in the HOF.

  5. roger clemens will get into the hall of fame because he has not been found guilty yet, they are all rumors there is no actuall evidence that roger clemens ever took steroids or hgh

  6. The operative word is “covicted”. If they are found guilty, I very seriously doubt that they will EVER get into the hall of fame, much like the Pete Rose fiaso.

  7. Athletes that use drugs are a disgrace to the true meaning of the word “athlete” I’m sorry, but I cannot accept, at least in my mind anyway - someone who makes millions of dollars competing in a sport they supposedly “love” and having to resort to crap like steroids and HGH’s. Can’t they train?!? OR is that too much work for them?! They are lazy and even worse … they are CHEATERS! - This is of course ONLY if they are guilty !

  8. I hope so. How else can they be competive at all unless they use steroids. If they were the only one’s, a different story, but they’re not.

  9. Highly doubt it.

  10. it doesnt really matter what YOU would do…Of course they wont. Poor marion jones had to give back everything, and so should all these cheating losers that have to cheat at a stupid game anyway. Id love to see these so called “athletes” get popped by a free safety while running full speed toward the end zone. Ive never seen nfl players standing around, spitting tobacco and grabbing themselves all game. Baseball is for losers who have no skills anyway…O wait that would cover golf as well.

  11. They should be, they gave dominating performances in the era they played in, an objective criteria. No one points out that Babe Ruth only competed against white baseball players.

  12. The answer to your question is not a simple one. Right now it appears that both players used steroids prior to the implementation of the drug testing plan and before in was banned by MLB. It could turn out that MLB will do nothing to these players that will keep them from their eligibility into the HOF. However, they still have to be voted in and the writers that vote players into the HOF might not vote for them if they are found to have actually used the drugs. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

  13. It all depends on what MLB decides to do…..IMO MLB needs to create a cut off Date if any player was found guilty of using steroids after that date then they should be banned from MLB….Prior to the date a lesser punishment or no action at all…..Clemens might make it…..Bonds I don’t think he will get it due to his baggage with BALCO and his perjury trial

  14. Yes, they both will eventually get into the Hall. It will take a few tries, but I believe that their numbers are just too good to keep them out. However, if the Hall lets these cheaters in, they must let in Pete Rose.

  15. not the first few years

  16. Woah, have you recently been concussed? They have not been proven guilty. The Mitchell report has zero validity. You are the reason men don’t respect female sports fans.

  17. Yes i think they get in! I know you say it gives them an asterik but until you have solid test results they get in but there integrity will always be questionable! Also when you think of there names they will always be tainted it will not be wow clemens was amazing pitcher and not that bonds beat he home run record it wil be they used Steroids or HGH !

Yes they will bc u cannot just keep these players out because they have been accused the league over the past 10 years is tainted with the steroids so u cannot take out a couple of players when u dont no who else has been using them.

  19. I personally would vote them in. Even though Bonds definately cheated (Clemens definately didn’t), he still was so much fun to watch before the whole steroids thing, and I think deserves it.

In the wise words of Stephen Colbert: “Athletes perform for our entertainment. Therefore, performance-enhancing drugs are really entertainment-enhancing drugs”.
